The Heights Line Resting Area and
Art Installation
The Heights Line art installation and rest area will serve as a pedestrian resting and hydration station for pedestrians of the Heights Line’s linear park. The rest area includes seating that will include a historical timeline and facts about the Heights neighborhood. The seating will also serve as an eye catching illuminated signage for a grand entry into the neighborhood. The design of the seating is inspired by the historical streetcar line that once ran through the Heights neighborhood. The seating consist of two semi circles that mimic railroad ties and the curves of circling streetcar. The semi circle is designed to promote conversation and community.
The interior of the seating will display laser cut art representing the railroads history of the 1900’s streetcar and the current community of diverse families. Each of the blue panels will have historical facts about residents and the history of the neighborhood. During the evening the solar lights will shine onto the box illuminating art panels and ”The Height” signage on the exterior.
On the ground the three Heights neighborhood and a compass will be painted onto the ground using asphalt paint. Treadwell Elementary and Middle school students will paint the flags. In the center of the rest area will include a 13’ antique style street lamp with three birds sculpted on top to represent the growth and development to come.
